Editorial Policy
Readers come to Essay & Speech when they have an assignment due, a speech to give, or a skill they want to improve. Our job is to give them advice that is accurate, usable, and honest. This page explains how we do that.
What We Publish
We publish instructional guides on essay writing, research and citation, rhetoric, and public speaking. Each guide focuses on one skill or problem and aims to leave the reader able to do something they could not do before. We do not publish thin summaries, keyword-stuffed pages, or articles written only to attract search traffic.
How We Write and Check Our Guides
- Start with the reader's problem. Every article begins with a specific situation, such as a blank page, a vague thesis, or nerves before a speech, and works toward a method that solves it.
- Check against established references. We compare our advice with widely used sources such as the Purdue Online Writing Lab, university writing-center handouts, the MLA Handbook, the APA Publication Manual, and standard rhetoric and composition textbooks. Where conventions differ (for example between citation styles), we say so.
- Show, don't just tell. Guides include worked examples: sample thesis statements, model paragraphs, outlines, and before-and-after revisions. All examples are written by us for teaching purposes.
- End with practice. Most guides close with an exercise or checklist so readers can apply what they have learned.
- Edit for clarity. Before publishing, every article is read in full for accuracy, plain language, and logical structure.
Use of AI Tools
We may use software tools, including AI writing assistants, to help with drafting, outlining, or proofreading. A human editor reviews, fact-checks, and is responsible for every article we publish. We never publish automatically generated content without review.
Academic Integrity
Our guides teach skills; they are not a substitute for your own work. We do not write essays or speeches to order, and we encourage every reader to follow their school's academic integrity rules. Always check your instructor's or institution's requirements, which take priority over general advice.
Independence From Advertising
Essay & Speech is funded by advertising shown through Google AdSense. Advertisers have no influence over what we write, and ads are always labeled and visually separated from our content. We do not accept payment to publish articles or links.
Corrections and Updates
If you find a mistake, an outdated rule, or an explanation that could be clearer, please tell us through our contact page or at contact@essayandspeech.com. We review every report and correct confirmed errors promptly. Substantial updates are reflected in the article's date.
