Why I want to become a social worker can be traced back to my childhood, maybe even before I knew there was a thing called social work. The motivation came from various positive outcomes for victims who have suffered from a similar fate and were assisted by workers who genuinely care. It worried me to see people being tested by circumstances and coming outstanding, probably motivated. This made me develop a passion. That made me aware that I wanted to be in a position of change, that I wanted to be the one making a difference in society. It was the beginning of what was to come; it deepened my drive to gain a career in social work.

To achieve my dream, I had to find comprehensive information about the social worker position. This profession involves sensitive individuals who advocate for, counsel and educate service recipients, including individuals, families, groups, and communities.

It is crucial to have a good education to become a social worker. I wanted to enhance the knowledge area that would equip me with practical knowledge to practice as an efficient social worker, so I enrolled in a Bachelor of Social Work. I covered several subjects: human interaction, human rights, social policies, and community advancement.
The program exposed me to numerous ideas and theories, giving me a blueprint of my reality as a social worker. Education is critical in the qualification process because it prepares one for meeting clients with sensitivity and understanding.
Gaining Practical Experience
Besides the classwork, it is also important for an individual in the field of social work to have practical exposure. To engage in every experience, I searched for internships and voluntary work. Gaining practical experience with professional social workers as my supervisors solved this issue.
These encounters strengthened my determination to follow this profession and gave me an idea of what is waiting for me as a social worker. Furthermore, working with clients also assisted me in increasing my competence in aspects such as teamwork, especially in terms of listening and solving problems.
